The last step is our private middle school, which continues helping students master the skills needed to excel in high school and take their place in today’s increasingly competitive world. Fifth through eighth graders participate in a fully departmentalized, academically rigorous curriculum with dynamic, specialized master level instructors in each subject. More emphasis is placed on individual responsibility for academic work. Assignments are given further in advance. Projects become larger. And subjects are integrated across disciplines.
Unlike large intermediate schools which may be overwhelming, the transition to these grades is easy at Seashore, because we work closely with each student, monitor individual progress and coordinate the timing of tests, projects and homework to keep the course load manageable.

The diversified curriculum, aligned to exceed National Common Core Standards, includes the classics and contemporary literature, Algebra 1, geometry, chemistry, biology, astronomy, physics, social studies, Spanish, technology, art, music, physical education and swimming. Aspiring Journalists Can Write For Seashore Student Views,
Winner of 2016 and 2017 Silver Crowns From Columbia University
Students are taught to write and design Seashore Student Views, the only intermediate school newspaper in NJ and one of three in the USA to win 2016 and 2017 Crowns from Columbia University’s Scholastic Press Association. Critiqued against journalists through 12th grade, the publication also earned 2017, 2016 and 2015 Gold Medalist Status and All-Columbian Honors for scoring 923 out of a possible 1,000 points from judges at the Ivy League’s Graduate School of Journalism. This was the 13th win for Seashore Student Views. To continue improving skills, each November, participants join delegates from schools across the Northeast at Columbia’s historic Morningside Heights Campus, for a full-day of workshops on all aspects of student publishing with top journalists and educators throughout the country.
NEW BEE Ready Class
To prepare students for the Scripps Spelling Bee, children take a BEE Ready Class on Fridays as a supplement to their Language Arts Curriculum. In addition to mastering first to eighth grade lists, they learn spelling tips for words from Italian, Greek, Latin, German, Dutch, Japanese, Spanish, French, Arabic, Asian and Greek origin. They match words with definition and are treated to an authentic food from that week’s country. Whether boys and girls move on to the Regionals at Monmouth University for a spot at the Nationals or not, all participants are expand their vocabulary, improve their spelling and boost confidence.
Sports & Electives That Open Doors To New Talents
Seashore also gives middle school students a chance to develop hobbies that could turn into careers with a menu of electives such as Chopped Challenge modeled after the Food Network’s Chopped, Cup Cake Wars, Photography, Iron Man Decathlon, A Day For Clay, Jewelry Making, Guitar, Stand And Be Heard, Se Habla Espanol, Recycled Sculpture, Economics, Make A Difference Volunteerism Club, Horticulture Club, Pointillism, Yogacize, Excel, Art History, Astronomy, Edible Schoolyard, Musical Theater, Dance, Chorus, Swimming and Sports.
Competitive Interscholastic Sports
Students can develop athletic ability, learn teamwork and form bonds by competing on soccer, basketball and track teams which have made it to the semi finals, playoffs, All-Star Tournaments, won the 2014 Sportsmanship Award and took first in the Red Kettle Classic. Since they don’t have to compete with hundreds for limited spots, those who want to play, get an opportunity to play.
